This is a built-in Whirlpool safety feature. If the control board detects that the water isn't heating properly (often due to a burned-out heating element or a faulty high-limit thermostat), it disables the dishwasher and flashes the Clean light (usually 7 times). We test the heating circuit, replace the failed component, and perform a factory reset to clear the code.

A failure to drain is typically caused by a clogged fine filter, a blocked drain hose, or a broken drain pump. If you recently installed a new garbage disposal under your sink, ensure the "knock-out" plug was removed from the disposal's drain port. We clear the entire drain path to ensure proper water flow.

Many Whirlpool dishwashers have a food chopper assembly near the pump to grind up soft food. If hard debris like bone fragments, fruit pits, or broken glass gets caught in the chopper blade or the wash pump impeller, it creates a loud grinding sound. If the bottom rack is clean but the top is dirty, water is not reaching the upper spray arm. This is frequently caused by a broken internal water delivery tube, a clogged upper spray arm, or a failing wash circulation pump that lacks the pressure to push water to the top. We inspect the wash system to restore water pressure to all levels.

While a torn door gasket can certainly cause leaks, front leaks on Whirlpool models are very frequently caused by a cracked lower spray arm. If the plastic spray arm splits at the seam, it shoots a wave of water directly at the bottom of the door, bypassing the seal. We inspect the spray arms, float switch, and door seals to stop the leak.
